'The Island' - Movie : Trailer 2 / Domestic/International Trailers

Posted by Hello'The Island' Movie

The Story:
Lincoln Six-Echo (McGregor) is a resident of a seemingly utopian but contained facility in the mid-21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully controlled environment, Lincoln hopes to be chosen to go to the “The Island”—reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet. But Lincoln soon discovers that everything about his existence is a lie. He and all of the other inhabitants of the facility are actually human clones whose only purpose is to provide “spare parts” for their original human counterparts. Realizing it is only a matter of time before he is “harvested,” Lincoln makes a daring escape with a beautiful fellow resident named Jordan Two-Delta (Johansson). Relentlessly pursued by the forces of the sinister institute that once housed them, Lincoln and Jordan engage in a race for their lives to literally meet their makers.

'Prey' ( D3 Engine Based Game ) - New Interviews & E3/05 Video

Posted by HelloOne of 'Prey's' Portals

'Prey' Interview by IGN:

IGN: The PC and Xbox have seen a lot of first-person shooters. What will make this one stand out? And why? What unique hooks are you conjuring up?

Chris: Prey will stand out because it's not just another FPS. We've spent a considerable amount of time coming up with new gameplay to enhance the experience. It isn't just a run-and-gun game. There are lots of great puzzles and challenges to overcome.

'Prey' - E3/05 : 10 Minutes Video:

"While at E3, we had the chance to see the exhilarating 10-minute, behind-closed-doors demonstration, and just about everything in it wowed us -- the graphics, sound, gameplay, presentation, you name it. Prey takes the DOOM³ Engine and fills it with a wild color palette. It delivers gorgeous natural lighting. And it offers up intriguing and compelling level design. Oh, and there are those kick-ass monsters, brilliant gun fights, and super creepy moments of alien invasion, too. But who cares about that stuff, right? This is the new generation, the "Hollywood Generation." It's all about marketing and perception, baby.…

What am I saying….? Damn you, E3 !

2050 - And Immortality is within our Grasp : Funny Story

Posted by HelloFuture or End of the World ?!

Sony hasn't even announced a launch date for the PS3, and already some bloke calling himself a "futurologist" is making predictions about its successor - no, not the PS4 even, but the PS5.

According to the Observer, Ian Pearson - head of BT's "futurology unit" - has spent 20 years studying technology and that, and is reasonably impressed by the specs for Sony's forthcoming next-gen console.

"The new PlayStation is 1 per cent as powerful as a human brain," he told the newspaper. "It is into supercomputer status compared to 10 years ago."

However, Pearson reckons that's nothing compared to what we can expect in the future. "PlayStation 5 will probably be as powerful as the human brain," he said. Right. Thanks for that.
What's more, there will be no death in the future - we'll all be able to download our brains into computers and live forever, says Pearson.

"By 2050 we would expect to be able to download your mind into a machine, so when you die it's not a career problem. If you're rich enough then by 2050 it's feasible. If you're poor you'll probably have to wait until 2075 or 2080 when it's routine."

If you want to learn more about Ian Pearson's frankly hilarious vision of the future, including how yoghurt will contain electronics so "you could have a conversation with your strawberry yoghurt before you eat it," because that's what the world really needs, you can read the full article here.

DooM³ - Mini-Mod - 'Relief Mapping' Shots & Videos ( See the Difference on the Relief of the Bump-Mapping in Use )

Posted by Hello

DooM³ - Mini-Mod - 'Relief Mapping' from "fpo" on OpenGL Forums said this:

"Just modified DooM³ shader (interaction.vfp file) to use Relief Mapping. You can check out the results in the following video:

Doom3 with Relief Mapping Videos

As the game does not include depth maps I also created a tool to process all game normal maps and generate the apropriate depth maps. I store the depth maps in specular map alpha channel (as normal map blue and alpha channels are useless with the DXT5 compression where X and W components are wapped and Z recalculated).

It works great at many places but will break at some gemetry where the polygon edges do not have depth zero. If depth maps wore manualy created this could be fixed but my tool is automatic and game normal maps wore not created for this type effect. Anyway it is a nice mod and intresting art to test my Relief Mapping shader idea.

And yes it does run real-time and you can play the game with all geometry using Relief Mapping. Get around 50 fps here in my P4 HT 2.5 with AGP 4X and geForce6800GT.

It could be more optimized as relief mapping changes only per view. For now it is calculated for every light (relief is recalculated many times per view, once per light). Could be done once per frame and have all lights share the same relief calculations stored in a texture for example (deffered shading). But this is not possible with current DooM³ render pipeline.

You can grab a features video for the mod right here, or just get straight to the point by downloading the mod along with several screenshots here. Be sure to check out the readme file included for instructions, and due note you'll need to run DOOM³ in Ultra Quality in order for this mod to shine.

DooM³ - 'ONCE UPON A TIME' - Mod/Map - One of the Best Mod/Map Ever with 99% Review Score by 3dgamersedge - Creator: T. CREUTZENBERG of Splash Damage

Posted by Hello Awesome/Spectacular Map Design

Tron, of 3dgamersedge dropped a note that he has reviewed the recently released mod, ONCE UPON A TIME. Now, since the author of this mod, Thomas Creutzenberg - former map designer for SplashDamage [responsible for many RTCW and the DOOM³ MP maps], has decided to spoil us with such an amazing singleplayer and multiplayer experience, it's no wonder that it deserved the 99% Score it now holds. Receiving the "3dgamersedge Gold Medal Award", here's a bit of what the review has to say:

" this now. this is by far the best single player add-on for DooM³ to emerge from the scene to date. from the uniquely crafted opening load screen to the closing text at the end, every last detail of this map oozes with professionalism. the story is simple enough: your vehicle has broken down, and you need to acquire another, which lies at the other side of the complex. what happens between these two events is some of the best gameplay you could ask for set in an amazingly well crafted level. the action is the highlight of the gameplay - and it is challenging, fun, and relentless. as in samuel villareal's map: the refueling station, the concept of luring the player into a false sense of security before throwing a surprise attack at them is thrown out the window in favor of a near non-stop onslaught of demonic forces. there is no time to relax and enjoy your surroundings as you journey onward, you will be under heavy fire at all times. developing this style of gameplay requires a high level of skill in terms of providing the player with appropriate items such as health, ammo, and weaponry. not enough, and the player is frustrated. too much and it becomes boring, thoughtless attack. the distribution of items in this level is near perfect. health packs are scarce enough to make sure you pay attention to your health score, but not so scarce that you need to keep reloading. weapons and ammo are provided with enough thought to keep you well-armed, while not overloading you with tons of high-powered artillery. what this creates is perhaps the most enjoyable pacing i have experienced in a DooM³ level outside of the expansion pack."

AGEIA - PhysX Physics Processing Unit PREVIEW // AGEIA Physics Processor at E3

Posted by Hello

AGEIA - PhysX Physics Processing Unit - Preview:

Little Quote of the Article

"What AGEIA and even game developers envision a PPU will enable for a gamer is a world with physics unlike anything we have seen in a real time game before. We are talking about thousands of rigid bodies, real flowing water, hair simulation, avalanches of rock, clothing simulations and more. Even more impressive is the idea of a universal collision detection system that allows you to interact with absolutely ANYTHING in a game world. All of it calculated in real time with nothing scripted in the game engine.

Sure you might have seen some explosions in a game you have played before, ones that might destroy an entire building. In nearly all cases, those have been scripted, meaning the debris and fire and dust were all created specifically for that explosion scene. Their motions and reactions were probably all scripted so that they went in a particular direction at a particular time and a particular speed. But what if you could have the option of changing that? What if you could have the explostion of a dam on a river be changed in real time depending on YOUR placement of the explosives? You might place them on the very center of the dam, creating a big hole that water rushes through, or instead you might only use a small amount of explosives to destory a small side portion and let water move out more slowly and let the water pressure be the force that eventually destroys the entire dam.

Damn. That would be a cool scene, and I didn't even see a demo of that -- just made it up !"

Unreal Engine 3 - Preview by Telefragged // Tim Sweeney Interview & Video

Posted by HelloUE3 in UT2007 Game - Shot

'Unreal Engine 3' - Preview by Telefragged:

Little Quote:

"Physics is starting to become a must-have in action games, especially first person shooters. So far, most companies have licensed the Karma or Havok physics systems to put in their games, but it seems to be time for something even better. UE3 uses a new physics system called Novadex which allows objects to break, slide, spin, and affect each other in ways that so far have had to be very heavily scripted line by line in previous games, even ones that had physics systems. The demonstrations of this system were very nice, with stuff like sets of cables hanging from the ceiling that could be broken off at certain points, stacked up on the floor (without constantly flopping around like I've seen some objects do in past games), and even set on fire while hanging and moving around."

Tim Sweeney ( Epic ( UE3 ) Staff Member ) Interview:

Little Quote about this Interview

Freeman: Okay! How will that affect the performance of Unreal Engine 3 running on a hardware physics engine as opposed to a software physics engine?

Sweeney: Well, the big thing there is how we'll be able to put far, far more physical effects, with things like particle systems, and fluid effects, where without the Ageia system, we'll have a particle system with only a few hundred particles, and with the system, we could have tens of thousands of particles there. And it's really nice, because it mirrors the kind of non-traditional processing power that's available on the Playstation 3 with the Cell architecture, so it's a factor of ten times more computing power, but it's very special-purpose.

Tim Sweeney's Video Interview:
Note: Is easier to understand with headphones.

In cooperation with Id software, Fountainhead Entertainment has designed the game from scratch, trying a new RPG-based style in the famous FPS DOOM saga.

Quote about this:

IGN Lost Coast Preview:

"A lot of us have been following the Lost Coast deal, and we've seen the trailer, but it's still pretty amazing to see it in person. Although it was a rolling demo and not something the presenter was interacting with (let alone one of us schleps on the show floor), it was easy to see what HDR does for the Half Life 2 engine. Not only does high-dynamic range really seem to complete the visual bouquet, but they've also increased facial complexity to make people look even more realistic than before.

Prey - Powered by DooM³ Engine - 1st Previews/Impressions ( Q&A ) & New Pics by GameSpot/IGN/Shacknews

Posted by HelloOne of the NEW Prey Pics

As we head into E3 next week, there's lots of buzz about the games that may be revealed at the gaming industry's biggest trade show. However, one high-profile game we do know will be there is Prey, an upcoming science fiction-themed first-person shooter from 3D Realms (the same studio responsible for Duke Nukem) and publisher 2K Games. Ironically, Prey is a game that made a huge buzz at E3 more than half a decade ago, only to then disappear from the face of the earth. Well, it's back, and 3D Realms has teamed up with Human Head to deliver a resurrected Prey that uses the dazzling DooM³ graphics engine. In Prey, you are a Native American warrior caught up in some extraordinary extraterrestrial adventures, and if the same concepts from the original design are still in the game, you can expect lots of very cool and interesting moments in Prey. It's been a while since we last saw Prey, though, so we caught up with Scott Miller, CEO of 3D Realms, Chris Rhinehart, Human Head project lead and co-founder, and Timothy Gerritsen, chairman and business director of Human Head, to get early details on the game.
